Found all over the Sahyadris, karvi is also known as the seven year plant. This is because they grow for seven years flower in the eighth and then die dispersing the seeds so that new plants emerge the following year.Karvi grows very straight and is used by tribals and other villagers to make the walls of their homes which are then plastered with cow dung.
The karvi flower is purple in color and attractive to bees. The honey acquired from bees is coveted and considered to have medicinal properties. It is a dark, luminescent brown and not the usual golden color.Karvi is also used as an insect repellant to remove the stinging nettle.
