Chilika Lake spreading over an area of 1100 sq km is the largest brackish water lake in the country. It attracts a large number of migratory birds besides resident ones.Barkul and Rambha are two places on the lake which serve as the base. The Dolphins have been reported mostly near Satapada-Magarmukha area and occasionally between Kalijai and Balugaon.Other animals reported from small pockets in the surrounding hills and islands and amidst the vegetation of sandy ridge facing Chilika are black bucks, spotted deer, jungle cat, otter, and monkeys etc. The best time to visit is from October to early June.

How to get there
Air: The nearest airport Bhubneshwar is 105 kms from Bakul and 135 kms from Rambha.The airport is directly connected with Kolkata,Chennai,Delhi and Mumbai.
Rail: The nearest railheads are Balgaon,Chilika and Rambha on S.E Railways which are connected to Kolkata,Puri,Chennai,Hyderabad and Mumbai via Secundrabad.
