Yercaud

Yercaud

Yercaud is one of Tamil Nadu’s true picnic spots. Just 35 km from Salem, the first thing which is truly stunning is the Yercaud Lake. A boat ride in the lake amidst the lush gardens leaves you relaxed and refreshed. You can visit Bear’s cave near Yercaud’s oldest Bungalow, Norton Bungalow. Located inside a private coffee estate the cave is 2 m below ground level. It is believed that it was used as a hideout by the famous ruler of Mysore Tipu Sultan during a war. Yercaud is situated at an altitude of 1,515 m above sea level in the Shevaroyan hills and at the highest point in the hills is the Shevaroyan Temple which is famous for a festival organized by local tribes in the month of May.
